There's nothing wrong with cropping. But, I do try to avoid it. I'm of the opinion that if the photograph is taken well, it shouldn't need cropping. That's not to say that I haven't cropped, or used photo editing software, sometimes it's necessary to enhance the visual imagery of the picture.
Holy h*ll what a lot of rude comments. No, I'm not referring to the "too skinny" ones, but to all the white knights and the dA admins especially. I'm disappointed in them! o-o Not picking any side, just wanted to say that it's a shame, coming to a nice picture like this one and seeing so much immaturity around...
I think it's a lovely picture and it looks like it'd be good to make some study sketches of :3 (and I mean that in the most positive way possible). It's hard to find good pictures of the man body like this one. The female is all over the place...
I will agree with you that the amount of defensive comments is a bit much....but I also believe the badly delivered weight jokes are too. The jokes could easily be considered rude by some in the way they are delivered. You have to understand that dA contains artists from many different cultures and upbringings, and to some the jokes are not welcome. That also applies in the opposite sense where some of the posters may be from a culture or an upbringing that sees nothing wrong with jokes implying the model needs to gain weight.
It would be nice if people were more conscious of the fact that they are dealing with many different cultures, and tried to be more respectful of each other. People are exhibiting a lot of ethnocentrism.
Yeah, believe me I know. Everybody can see what happens when people from 5-10 countries get together in one country. Racism, discrimination, shitshitshit. This is the internet. People from the whole world is coming together here, so collisions and fights are inevitable It's just crazy that so many people can't deal with that fact. I've seen tons of comments everywhere that I think are offensive, but I just deal with it because on the internet everybody has full right to think whatever they want and post it as well :3 I think it's insane that some people honestly come online and start deciding who has a right to speak their mind and who doesn't.
Kinda thought provoking, really. Interface is huge. And still there's not room enough for everyone :/
I enjoy the black and white composition. I know it takes a lot of guts to post such things in the internet. For my photography class I did a self portrait based on my own body. My own struggle to loose weight and finally came out with it (I constantly think I am over 200+ lbs even though I know I am not). I think it is a beautiful piece. Beautiful placement, just the right shades of black and white. You have the full range of value. I would ask if this was digital, but most portraits these days are. I would prefer to work in the darkroom honestly.
However (I am not trying to be rude or point and laugh, since I have experienced such things towards myself), you do look a little skinny. I am not trying to be rude, just pointing it out. It is interesting to see the bone structure underneath the skin, as I had to study anatomy such as this. However, this is the one thing that kind of turns me off to this picture. Stating my opinion and I think that is all. Keep creating such artistic and expressionistic work! You deserved the DD.
Also, there is nothing wrong with the model's weight. This particular individual could have a high metabolism that keeps them that size. It doesn't mean they're unhealthy. My husband has a similar build and he eats like a horse (and is amazingly strong for his size).
